Editors' Pick Editors’ Pick

Kick off the holiday season by watching former White House pastry chef Roland Mesnier build a gingerbread house in the shape of Mount Vernon. The chef sets up shop in the Vaughan Lobby between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Visitors are invited to look on as Mesnier creates marzipan figures and pieces together gingerbread shapes. The chef is likely to take a half-hour break for lunch each day, but aside from that, he will be at work on the house.

You don't have to pay admission to see this particular event (Mesnier will be located near the gift shop, not inside the estate). Should you want to visit the estate while you're at Mount Vernon, regular admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, $7 for ages 6 to 11 and free for children younger than 5.
