The U.S. Department of Energy's annual competition of solar-powered house design and construction has become one of the District's unique public events. The homes are assembled in a solar village on the National Mall, where they are judged and the winners are selected. While on the Mall the homes are open to the public for tours, with all of their technological and design innovations on display. Check out Virginia Tech's entry, the only U.S. team that will compete in this year's both the 2009 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon and Solar Decathlon Europe in 2010.
