Tikvat Israel has a definite "personality." The 3 pillars of the shul strike me as being social action/responsibility, lifelong learning, and the arts. Some congregants learn to read from the Torah, lead a service, give a D'var Torah, etc. Others just sit in services - or attend other events. It is very unpretentious. If you come to a service, you won't feel like you're part of a fashion competition. No one takes attendance. You don't have to "get involved," but you'll want to be. Nice location! - nestled between Rockville HS and the Rock Creek Trail. If you have young children, the Early Childhood Center is outstanding.
