Anacostia's 26st annual community festival and parade offers food, live entertainment, games, rides, children's activities and merchandise.

The festival has four stages of entertainment featuring rhythm and blues, jazz, oldies music and gospel. Performers include Jessica Reedy, Spur of the Moment, Algebra, Asheru, Rafael Ross & Reconciliation, Suttle Thoughts, English Man, Ten Commandments Band, Bliss Ananda, Introspect Band and Y'anna Crawley, winner of BET's "Sunday Best" gospel contest.

There's long been a children's area at the festival, but organizers this year have set up the "Throwback Playground," where adults are invited to play with the provided jump ropes, hula hoops, hopscotch courts, checkers and chess games.

The long-running and popular hand-dance contest awards trophies to the top dancers, but there will also be many other dance demonstrations, yoga demonstrations and dance classes, including an African dance class for kids.

The children's area also includes face painting, motorcycles to see up close, a spelling bee and craft activities where kids can make a musical instrument.

This festival will begin with a prayer, marking the first time it has been held since the 2007, when a car driven into the festival crowd injured 49 people.
