Take a tractor-pulled hayride to the produce market's pick-your-own pumpkin patch. Additional activities geared toward young children include farm animals and straw and corn play activities. Open daily 10 to 6 through October 25. 11110 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls. 703-430-8955. Weekend hayrides, from 11 to 4, are $3.

The farm carries Scotch and white pine, Douglas fir, Norway and blue spruce, as well as pre-cut Fraser, Noble and Douglas fir; white pine and blue spruce.

Directions: At 11110 Georgetown Pike (Route 193), eight miles west of I-495 and one mile east of Route 7.

Small but great for the area

We went to pick our tree over the Thanksgiving holiday. The farm is smaller than what we are use to (I'm from the West and my husband, the Midwest). But considering how close it is to the city I'd say it is fabulous. Just be sure to go early on in the season cause I'm sure they run out of really good trees after a couple weeks. The customer service was excellent. Very polite, very helpful.

Only "Charlie Brown" trees remain

While the staff was very nice and helpful, and the cut-your-own trees priced a little lower than other farms, the pickings are slim, to say the least. We went on 12/16/08 and only found one tree remotely worth cutting. Fine if you want a 5 ft. tree, but not any good left above that.
