Exploring Kalorama's rich Embassy Row and hidden museums is a wonderful way to pass a day, but no trek through the neighborhood is complete without a stop at this secluded set of steps and fountain built in the early 1900s. At the top, there's a little park with a view of some of the embassies; it always feels like finding a hidden treasure.
Steps from busy Florida Ave., I discovered The Spanish Steps taking a random stroll through the neighborhood. I was in love at first sight. Peaceful, historic, and quaint. Bring a book, a journal, tunes when solo. Great "thinking spot" and perfect ending for a day date. You won't believe you're so close to one of the busiest intersections in the city.
