It's Jaden Smith — and not his father Will — who's at the center of this soggy sci-fi flick.
Totally disappointing, all the way around. They all (the Smiths and Mr. Shamalyn) could've saved their time and money, stayed hone, and phoned the whole thing in. Wish I would've.
I don't get it, this was a very good movie about a father and his son coming into manhood. It was intelligent, smart, and entertaining. How could critic give the movie Silver Lining such great reviews and After Earth such bad reviews I will never know. Forget what the critics say and go see a good, solid entertaining movie that will touch your heart.
I saw the movie and rated it 4 out of 4 stars. As retired military, I could relate to the gruff military man who is also a father. I have to admit, I never babied my kids and yet, I like to think they understood I loved them. I am not so old that I cannot remember the anguish of attempting to pass from boyhood to manhood. I would have thought so many could easily relate to this story. As for the casting and acting, my criteria is pretty simple...I'm not an actor and if you can do ten times better than me, I'm good! It seems to me if you want Shakespeare, go see a Broadway show! As a former military man, I also give a lot of points for effort...just for trying. Again, for me, a very good and highly entertaining movie. Have a good day!
