Farewell, My Queen (Les Adieux a la reine) Critic's Pick

Average Reader Rating

Great for Francophiles

This is a wonderful film in any case, but especially for people who appreciate the French people and their history.

Farewell My Queen

Stunning! We always get a glittery view of this era. But, this film is all 'backstairs.'. What would it have been like to behind the scenes as 1,000 years of royal rule began evaporating around you? Like in 'Titanic,' the viewer knows what is coming, but the characters don't. You want to urge them to flee, but they are oblivious until it is too late. And, the recreation of this turbulent period is breathtaking - for both the nobility and the lower classes who wait on them. Acting, costumes, dialogue and, of course, Versailles are in perfect synch. Stop reading this NOW and go see it

An engrossing film

If you have any interest in the French Revolution or in Marie Antoinette, this movie has the drama and detail that make a movie work. I also has the underlying terror of the beheading to come,a subtle, sinister tune that seeps through all the proceedings. All of the acting is good and Diane Kruger has a moment of stardom.
