I forgot my rule. The one that states if the Post critic likes the movie keep away. My husband was ready to walk out upon the hand-job in the car scene, but I gave it a bit longer. This not only was a waste of time and money, it was a shame to history. The British should declare war on us again for the job done on The Royal couple. Bill Murray was ill-cast and is the worst FDR in theatrical history. We walked out.
I do feel Daisy comes into her own at the end of the movie (spoiler alert) She decides to continue the affair for her own enjoyment; not because FDR was President or family. She goes from being a mousy quiet thing - to playing poker, hanging with his male staff and practically having a Ménage à Trois. Visit Tinsel & Tine
Just a quick correction to the post from menzel9081. Part of "Sunrise at Campobello" was indeed filmed at Hyde Park. The site appears in the middle of the film after FDR (played by Ralph Bellamy) recovers from his illness. Eleanor Roosevelt herself attended the scenes filmed there. The film also features Campobello Island, where Roosevelt came down with either Polio or Gullain-Barre Syndrome. The filming in Campobello was done last (the cottage is now a museum).
Haven't seen it yet, but poster Perry should know that "Sunrise at Campobello" was not filmed at Hyde Park. As its title suggests, it was filmed at Campobello Island, N.B.., Canada, where the Roosevelt family owned a summer cottage.
Though I eventually accepted Bill Murray as FDR, I couldn't get beyond the schizophrenic script and its series of lame (pun intended) SNL skits. Roosevelt as lecherous buffoon? Not exactly "Sunrise at Campobello." Whereas Eleanor Roosevelt joined the cast of that movie for filming at the real Hyde Park, she must be spinning in her grave there over her insipid characterization in HPOH. Our 32nd president was not faithful to ER, but proof positive of the film's salacious scene between him and his cousin Daisy simply does not exist. And don't blame the Brits if they reenact the burning of the White House after seeing the stereotyped Royals in this depiction. I guess we do have more to fear than fear itself--reruns of this turkey.
