The dancing saves this movie! Soderberg directs a film one up from porn, by substituting dance for sex! Channing Tatum and his bevy of brothers dance the heart into the film, with Mathew McConaughy excelling as sleazy syncopator-in-charge. The 'dialogue'and scenes off the dancefloor are reminiscent of the precusors to this effort, the movies seen mainly on the blue screen. Even the cinematography is 'low budget', suitably mirroring the 'acting' in scenes perfunctorily added to pad out the screentime. However good the dancing, it cannot sustain attention for the entire length of a full-length feature film. Hence the need for a story-line, however weak, and it is! Sorry, fellas, make your moves on the dancefloor, leave the acting to others.
Let's face it, "Magic Mike" may never see an Oscar, but it intrigued many of us through its trailers and commercials that we purchased a ticket to see it. I felt it was beautifully acted, tender, funny, exciting and entertaining - mostly attributed to the actor Channing Tatum. I am a fan of the actor Matthew McC. and his performance of a sleezy character was so well done, I failed to realize long after exiting the film that he was portraying a role. I loved this movie and I plan to either rent it or add it to my collection. I don't expect to see a "Magic Mike 2" in the future, but if there is you will find me in the 6th row, center aisle. See you there!
