In "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," now that Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson) has done the dirty dumping deed, he has made an interesting discovery: She's not only crazy, she's super. Hell hath no fury like an uberwoman scorned; she even tries to fry his goldfish with her X-ray vision. She tosses a shark through his bedroom window. She puts his car in orbit.

Her name is G-Girl (Uma Thurman), and in her guise as mild-mannered art gallery manager Jenny Johnson, she is clumsily approached on the subway one day by a shlub. His come-on is so pathetic, but it's later leavened by the fact that he tries to be a hero in a cowardly way, so she says yes, yes, I will, yes. Soon they're having bed-wrecking sex at his place or hers. But she wants to be with him . . . all . . . the . . . time.

The two starring performances are spot on. Wilson gets the tone that screenwriter Don Payne so expertly evokes: It's a weird sort of self-aware despicability. It's not that he's a brute, a bully, a monster, it's not that he doesn't empathize with her. Thurman is beautiful, fearless and perfectly believable as a superhero.

Memo to readers: After the shark in the apartment scene, you should leave. What remains isn't merely stupid and pointless, it is, more unforgivably, laughless. Look! Up in the air! It's two-thirds of a bird! It's two-thirds of a plane! It's two-thirds of a funny movie called "My Super Ex-Girlfriend"!
