It stars one of the most charismatic leading men in Hollywood, but is a slow, methodical film.
As with all critical reviews I have read, most will hate this film, as did many in the theater. Me on the the hand thought it was a pretty cool concoction of Kurbrick and Tarantino and the long still shots with limited dialog and disorienting transitions felt like a slow read through a graphic novel, comic book, with little said, time to study images, and overlays of possibly related scenarios. The soundtrack was fabulous. Not for everyone but who cares about that, plenty of the norm can be found on any of your personal devices.
A violent tale of vice and retribution from Nicolas Winding Refn. In the criminal underworld of Bangkok, ex-pat Julian (Ryan Gosling) runs a heroin ring with his brother (Tom Burke). When his brother kills a teen prostitute and is then murdered by her father, Julian faces the grim choice of avenging his brother's death,or facing his mother's (Kristen Scott Thomas) scorn.
