I was overwhelmed by this movie. It was very well done and the ost moving movie I have seen in years. The lead character was so pitiful, but so perfectly performed,I had no choice but to feel her pain. Monique's performance was amazing. If she is not nominated for an Oscar, then there is no justice in moviedom!! She literally had me and the entire theater in tears. Go see this movie!!
I was shocked, I cried, and I laughed. This movie resonates with me like no other. I felt for the character Precious. God bless the all the real Precious in the world. Simply the best movie I've seen in years. I loved it and I encourage everyone to see it.
From the actors performances to the directors clever way of shooting the film, 'Precious' is flawless. A must see for any movie lover, and a definite recommendation for any and every young black female growing up in America today.
People say I tend to like movies with dark subject matter, but I think great movies [and I don't use that term lightly] transcend their content. This one breaks the mold. I agree with everything in this review, though I think Mo'nique gives the performance of the year -- and I didn't find it over the top at all. It is sometimes hard to watch [especially the scenes with Precious' mother] but is absolutely riveting despite the brutality. I don't know how they are going to find scenes without profanity to show at the Oscars, but this one is going to be in serious contention. But if you go, could you please turn your phones off and stop texting for two hours? This movie deserves your utmost attention.
The movie Precious is ever bit as griping as its origin story in the novel Push. At times, you want to turn away and not see the pain Precious has to endure. Yet, it's comforting that despite all the obstacles thrown in her path, Precious still gets up and lives. That's an inspirational message we all need at this time in the world.
My review was four stars, not one.
This movie made me cry, laugh, sad, happy, and hopeful. Every parent of a young girl should see this movie. It transcends race, class, and physical looks. It embraces the yearning for humanity; to be treated humanely, and to be human in oftentimes inhumane conditions.
solid acting, very real storyline; worth every penny!
I read the book, and if the movie is anything like the book you will be moved by it. This was the most powerful book I ever read. It made me think. It made me mad. It made me cry. It took me on a journey that I would have never thought of in my wildest dreams. For a mother to treat her child like that, you have to wonder what happend to her mother when she was growing up. what happened to the love a mother is to have for her child. I can't wait to see the movie. But, If you did'nt read the book, do so. It is powerful.
