The first half of the film is very enjoyable, but the second half was ridiculous. Bond films should have that mission-impossible magic, not preposterous plot lines. A helicopter full of bad guys lands in the daytime, then it's suddenly dark. They shoot hundreds of bullets into the building where Bond is, then the villain tells his men not to hurt Bond because he wants to tackle him himself. Then why were they shooting at him? To scare him? Characters make a desperate nightitme escape, then give away their position by using a flashlight. Much of the dialogue is bland, not clever. There are no memorable lines and some just make no sense. The villain catches Bond and says, "This is what you get for all that running around." Huh?
My wife and son did not like this movie as much as I did because they were looking for more action. Skyfall is less Thunderball than Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It has possibly the best backstory and insight on Bond in the series history. It also has across-the-board great acting - something often missing from most Bond movies. But there are long periods of narrative that stretch the patience of adrenaline junkies. I think it's possibly the best Bond movie, certainly the most dramatic, but not everyone will agree.
This movie was horrible. There was nothing about it that resembled a Bond movie. There were no gadgets, no "James Bond moves", nothing. The plot and special effects sucked too. Really disappointed.
Daniel Craig is great and Judi Dench is perfect. A fitting Bond film with a great title song and constant action. This has all the humour and pizazz of vintage Bond.
This is not a Bond movie, in the same vein that the Dark Knight Rises is not a superhero movie. This is probably the most cerebral Bond movie I have ever watched; it lent understanding to his relationship with M, what intelligence is and isn't (watching Q cope with a superior technician made me laugh), and, when it comes down to it, the best villians are motivated by something simpler than world domination. A lot of people deride Quantum of Solace, but this movie lends more context to Craig's Bond and I am still thinking about it. I plan to see it again this weekend, after Lincoln.
I liked the action, althought I have see most of it before. Craig is much too stiff. Q is much too young. No new gadgets, sorry love scene. And.. Bond doesnt tear up
Agree with captclamdigger elsewhere that the age issue definitely was tiresome - yes M can go to the field, Q is a young squirt, Bond is a dinosaur that is still needed. I question the need to kill off a certain character - to what point? Supposedly new: fewer gadgets; but I liked all the gadgets these many years. We learn a bit about 007's family/background, but Craig seems so cold. Does this guy have feelings? And the shower scene - can't you do better? This version barely has a star Bond girl. And the car! So if we all blow up our past, we can start w/ a clean slate. Craig has signed up for 2 more Bond films: will James Bond survive him?
Missed the mark...one or two suspenseful scenes...none of the 007 intrigue, gadgets...Daniel Craig not debonair enough...poorly written last half scenes for M...more misses than I can list.
Great Bond movie. Classic style dialogue and villian. The action was well done in Bond extremes without being too over the top as some Bond movies did. I just found the sub-theme about old people still being useful to get annoying by the end. Ok, we get it. Old people are still useful. It was fine to point out, but by the end of the movie it got in the way of what would have otherwise have been a good story. I also have to complain about the direction of the villian's plot. It would've been better if it had gone political instead of personal. So much unfulfilled potential with what the trailers made the plot out to be compared to the direction that the writers actually took. But if you go for the action, you won't be disappointed.
I just hope it gets better; im an longtime fan, and Craig seems too thuggish to be Bond.
i can only hope this will be as good as quantum of solace which my family and i have watched at least 10 times!!
Saw this yesterday. And I will confidently predict this go stratospheric. Possibly the best Bond ever......... A script-driven movie, with good charaterisations and the minimum of gizmos and CGI; the stunts were done for real; and were spectacular. Underpinning it all is Daniel Craig's ruthless Bond, as he pursues the "baddies" from Istanbul, to China, but with a large part of the action taking place in London with a brilliant finale in the Scottish Highlands..... Javier Bardem as the villain is more subtly drawn than most Bond "heavies"... Too tell you too much would be to spoil it for you; go and see it, you will not be disappointed.....
