It is sad that these days cowboys just cant compete with cartoons. This movie was just the wrong genre for the wrong demographic. It IS a good movie and the way the story transitions back and forth between the Old Tonto telling his story and the Young Tonto living the adventure is GREAT. Helena Bonham Carter excelled as always. Yes I too was disapointed with the blah lead actor chosen to be the Lone Ranger but the story was a good retelling of a classic and it didnt lag for a second. Give it a watch!

Great Summer movie

Imagine Silver, standing in a tree wearing THE white hat. Tonto says, "Something strange about that horse." The movie is a fantasy with action, high speed chases, funny dialog, and beautiful scenery. Go to the movie expecting fun and you will enjoy it. Go to the movie expecting a documentary or politically correct portrayals, then save your money.

dont miss this one

Not ur mothers LONE RANGER. Very very very enjoyable humor. The audience I was in applauded at the end of the movie and the applause was deserved..see this movie in. The spirit of being entertained and u will be!!!

For immature audiences only

It was a mixture of immature comedy, adventure and serious issues, such as genocide. The mixture did not flow well. Even Johnny Depp could not save this movie. The lone ranger was portrayed as more of a fool than a hero. The movie was like cold greasy fast food, some taste, but very little substance.

Love. Depp. Always. This movie? Not so much.

Majestic, colorful and, at times, breathtaking, the outdoor scenery in The Lone Ranger was the best part of the movie. Thin on plot and thinner on structure, the loosely connected scenes don't have the strength of a half hour TV show, let alone a two and a half hour movie. The potential strength of Johnny's Tonto was ruined with the stereotypical, stilted speech pattern, making it painful to watch. None of the characters reflected any depth. After a while, it was a boring, live-action cartoon ... just plain flat. I was very disappointed. I am a Depp fan-for-life. Everyone has a flub or two in his/her career. I look forward to seeing his next movie, a block-buster for sure.

Don't Let the Critic's Review Keep You from Enjoying This Film

I saw this at a sneak preview and was thoroughly entertained. True, there are plenty of anachronisms (um, I don't think the national anthem sounded like that in the mid-19th century), fallacies (it's silver, not coal), and an evil capitalist for the audience to <ahem> rail against. True, all of this is wrapped up in a movie that would have been better entitled "Tonto". And yet, it's a good movie. The scenes are beautiful, the acting engaging, the dialog funny, and the action engrossing. In short, it's entertaining, and in the end, why else do we go to the movies but to be entertained?
