This is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, founded in 1783 by George Washington. Members are the descendants of Continental Army officers who served under Washington. The Renaissance Revival house was a 1937 gift of Isabel and Larz Anderson, a couple whose wealth was great and whose taste was, to put it mildly, enthusiastic, eccentric and eclectic. The public parts of the mansion remain furnished and decorated mostly as the Andersons left them, with the addition of displays of society memorabilia and Revolutionary War exhibits. There's nothing else like it in town.

The house closes for holidays and during society functions.
