Corcoran School of Art is the only professional school of art and design in the District of Columbia.The school is comprised of the School of Fine Art, School of Graphic Design and School of Photography.
First-year students begin their studies in the Foundation Program, which focuses on the development of basic visual and drawing abilities necessary to working in any medium of the arts.
In full-time, four-year programs, students spend 65 percent of their time in studio art classes, with the remainder of the time in academic classes such as art history, writing and humanities.
The school has its own exhibition space, the Hemicycle Gallery, which focuses on the work of Corcoran seniors, alumni, faculty and artists from the District and beyond.
