Union soldiers created the "diary on walls" comprising art, poetry and signatures during their occupation of the Fairfax area from 1862-1863. The visual display provides perspective into what life was like for average soldiers in the Civil War era. The Fairfax Civil War Weekend is held every year in May on the surrounding property. Once the renovations are complete, the site will include an interpretative center, exhibition space, classroom and gift shop.
