The five-piece, cast aluminum sculpture stands 17 feet tall at its highest point and is 70 feet across.

The sculpture had been long associated with the tip of Hains Point, where it had been installed since June 1980. "The Awakening" had been on loan to the Park Service, which manages East Potomac Park. The owner, California-based Sculpture Foundation, sold the work to the developer of the National Harbor project.
