Drug Rug certainly isn't the worst band name we've heard (the scars of the nu-metal years are still pretty fresh) but it inspires plenty of eyerolls. Good thing for the Cambridge, Mass., band that its songs make you quickly forget about its silly moniker. Think a more sun-kissed version of former local faves Nethers and you'll be on to Drug Rug's sound. The band tackles Carter Family-style folk and sunny psych-pop with winning enthusiasm, shining especially brightly on the deliriously catchy "Day I Die." Many songs sound as if they are hanging together by just a thread, but that only adds to the ramshackle delights.
