Mark Jenkins reviewed a July 2007 Los Amigos Invisibles performance for The Washington Post:

As if to demonstrate their modernity, Los Amigos Invisibles began and ended their Saturday show at the 9:30 club with passages that were heavily electronic. Most of the music between these techno bookends, however, was more traditional, and not unfamiliar. The Venezuelan sextet arrived in the United States in the late 1990s, but its favored rhythms had infiltrated the North American mainstream well before that. At various times, the Amigos' 90-minute set recalled disco, Santana, bossa nova and even Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs.

Such tunes as "Mami Te Extrao" were mostly grooves punctuated by chants, and clustered into multi-song suites; the group played for a half-hour before its first full stop. The effect was similar to that of D.C.'s Latin-influenced go-go, although with less involving vocal hooks. Frontman Julio Briceo's voice was fairly low in the mix, and the predominantly Spanish lyrics often culminated in nonsense-syllable choruses. Yet if the band's snarky humor didn't entirely translate, the conga-driven beats delivered an unequivocal message: Move! The fans pressed close to the stage could only sway and -- following the musicians' cue -- hop. But up on the less populated balcony, listeners were inspired to practice their salsa steps.
