Mello-D & the Rados call themselves "the nation's dopest live hip-hop band," which is an impressive superlative in a world where the Roots exist. Despite our disagreement with their enthusiastic self-endorsement, we like these guys and understand that hubris is a necessity in the hustle of the indie hip-hop game. Mello-D doesn't come across as just "a guy rapping in front of a band;" he's adept at bending his MCing around the dynamics of his musicians. (He blows some decent sax, too.)
