Our Review

The 49-bell carillon was installed in 1954 as a gift from the people of the Netherlands to the people of the United States in thanks for liberating their country in the Second World War. In 1995, the 50th anniversary of the liberation, a 50th bell was presented along with a renovation and modernization of the monument.

The 127-foot-tall tower is a great place to look out over Washington and other local features at any time. During carillon concerts visitors can also watch the carillonneur perform in a glass-enclosed room 83 feet above the ground.

Also not to be missed are the thousands of tulips, which are imported yearly from the Netherlands to ensure a uniform blooming time, size, height and flower. Peak blooming time is normally early April through early May.
