In the restored Italian Renaissance-style building that housed the historic 12th Street YMCA, the first full-service Y for African Americans. Visitors can see the Y’s original gymnasium, and the Heritage Room has exhibits from the early men’s-club era. The building was designed by one of the nation’s first African American architects, W. Sidney Pittman, son-in-law of Booker T. Washington.
