This club (not actually a hotel, of course) was one of the first foundations of the H Street revival. It's now the area's sturdy centerpiece and continues to be one of the best places in the city to see bands before they get famous. (James Blake and Odd Future were two recent sold-out shows.) There's also a giant bar upstairs that hosts regular sweat-inducing DJ nights.
The bouncer used force when unnecessary! I'm a 5'1, 115 lb. Yet the bouncer aggressively pushed me out and slammed the exit door on me without saying anything, all because I was standing there. I came back in and asked him why he did that, he simply told me to leave and said "have a nice life". I refused because I was confused, this guy initiated contact while I wasn't in anyone's way, harming anyone, or even stumbling around. I was sober. The guy then manage to literally grab my whole body in attempt to kicking me out. It was just straight up an assault. I emailed the owner, he did not even sound apologetic, and claiming that they only use professional security. This whole thing is embarrassing on their side and insulting to me.
Paid over $20 for the tickets. For bathrooms that don't work. And THE WORST is after 3 hours and 3 beers and a shot I slipped on the stairs, I believed someone was coming over to see if I was OK. Oh no they threw me out and wouldn't even let me use the restroom or let my friends know they were forcing me to leave. I have never been forced to leave a bar before... Now I have because I am a klutz. I do like the review calling the place "bowltell" :-)
