Go see this show! Thanks to tremendous talent, the Savoyards have put on another spectacular production. From the start of the overture the music was amazing – how nice to hear a FULL orchestra and trained LOCAL singers on a DC stage! Though there are many great performances, the stand-outs are Annie Gill – who would blow the roof off the joint if they let her – and a very impressive Jase Parker. The choreography by Pauline Grossman was also a highlight – a combination of classical ballet and 60’s dances gives century old material a very fresh and hip feel. And the costumes deserve special mention – simply eye popping, especially the cool fairy costumes. It is the fun night away from reality that everyone needs right now.
A fun plot, beautiful costumes and a cast full of exquisite voices(especially the girl who plays Phyllis -- her gorgeous voice floats through the theater and enchants the audience) -- the Washington Savoyards have done it again! If you're looking for a show to lift your spirits during these rainy days, Iolanthe is definitely the place to go. Former Chief Justice William Rehnquist would approve, apparently (I guess he really like the Savoyards when he was alive; that fun fact was gleaned from their programs).
