Silver Spring Stage

Editorial Review

The company stages seven full-length shows year-round, including a summer one-act play festival featuring many new works by local writers.

Aside from producing a large number of plays, the ambitious troupe performs each full-length show over a four-week run, rather than the two- and three-week runs typical of most amateur-theater companies.

The theater is in the basement of the Woodmoor Shopping Center in the tree-filled Silver Spring neighborhood known as Four Corners. The shopping center is a rambling two-story, Art-Deco style building, with a neon "Woodmoor" sign perched on top.

The stage is an unusual configuration, stashed in a corner of the low-ceiling basement and featuring two sections of audience seats facing the two open sides of the square stage. As in a theater-in-the-round, the set-up poses special challenges, but the troupe has no trouble playing to both sides of the room.

Silver Spring Stage welcomes volunteers who can work in all areas of theater production.
