Weill and Brecht Roll Over

It's great that Signature Theater mounted Threepenny Opera, but there are disappointments. The sounds from the orchestra and the singers are poorly balanced (and alas the actors are miked), too often the singer in Polly's roll seems to screech rather than sing, the Macheath actor seems physically poorly cast, and references to the Veterans Administration and Afghanistan are just too cute. But the production has polish, as we expect at Signature.
