There are a growing number of worthwhile storytelling nights around town thanks to SpeakeasyDC, Story League, the Anecdote and Fan-Freaking-Tastic. And that means there are plenty of opportunities to both listen to a compelling tale and give voice to your own. But if the mere thought of taking the stage under a bright spotlight prompts sweaty palms and heart palpitations, you might consider checking out the Tongue Party. The new series hosted by storytellers Joseph Price and Kaitlin Jentzen kicks off tonight and offers the chance to share stories in a no-pressure setting. Upon arrival, visitors will receive a prompt related to the theme of the night (“an education”), after which it’s time to start meeting people and sharing your freshly concocted tale. For a bit of inspiration, John Kevin Boggs and Mary-Alice Farina will take the stage later in the evening to show how it’s done. The event is free, but a suggested $20 donation benefits Horton’s Kids, dedicated to tutoring and mentoring D.C. youth.
