Set amidst elm and holly trees on the grounds of the National Academy of Sciences, a 12-foot sculpture celebrates the life and legacy of scientist Albert Einstein.
Einstein's bronze likeness, weighing in at four tons, is seated casually on a granite bench. The figure holds a tablet that lays out three of his best-known contributions to science. Visitors are welcome to sit on and pose with the docile-looking physicist.
The sculpture was unveiled in 1979 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Einstein's birth.
