The Inn is showing its age with dated decor and lackluster fare.

It's hard to get it right at this landmark restaurant: on the one hand they want business...just not your's,- if you're not wearing what seems to be an "ad hoc" spur-of-the-moment dress code decided by whoever us in charge when you get there. I arrived shortly after 5PM in dress jeans, polo shirt and sneakers and was told the sneakers disqualified me from eating there. When I pointed out another person seated, served and wearing sneakers, the waiter/maitre said "oh, he was already here before 5PM". So, I replied, your cut-off for allowing sneakers is 5PM? "We like our patrons to dress for dinner." Another time I took my mom for sunday lunch, (sans sneakers this time) and basically got Denny's fare for Ritz Carlton prices!
My wife and I took friends from Texas to eat and I had the shrimp with salad and my wife had crab cakes. Both were prepared well. But I especially appreicated the service. Everyone we saw either greeted us or ask us back. My firends sent this note: "Our lunch at the Old Angler's Inn was a completely new and unique experience for us. We had never been in a place that blends so well history and gourmet cooking. I can still smell the wood burning and the aroma of pine trees outside the Inn."
Although the service was attentive, the food was very disappointing and overpriced. The rolls were stale, oysters were small and tasteless, my wife's shrimp were overcooked, and she had an upset stomach for hours. Pretty outdoor setting, but food is lacking.
Maitre de seems as though he'd rather be elsewhere, rolls were stale and food was not cooked as requested. Grounds looked worn out, looks like the place is begging for a new owner.
The food was just ok. The service was non existent. It was a special occasion ruined because we were treated like dirt. It was also freezing cold in the restaurant which did not help. We were all but completely ignored. When the waiter made extremely rare visits to our table we were treated rudely. Too bad, never going back.
Despite some of the other poor reviews our experiences have been very good-all for pleasant outdoor lunch dining with attentive service and well-prepared food. Not inexpensive but an outing we have found relaxing and satisfying. Others there also seemed content.
My friends and I were looking forward to Easter Brunch at Old Anglers Inn. We had a lovely meal. It was expensive, but that was expected. Except that my friend was charged twice the amount that was stated on the receipt ($120 when it should have been $60). She called them, explained the situation, they said they would get back to her. They never called back, nor are they returning any of her phone calls. The restaurant looks beautiful, but considering all of the problems, it really isn't worth your business.
Looking at the reviews prior one wonders where these people ate!! We were greeted at the door, ushered to a cozy fire to wait for the rest of our party of 7. The bar-tender greeted us and asked for requests. The ambiance was old world and cozy....perfect lighting. Everyone was very polite...we were treated like royalty! We were given a choice of waters, an extensive wine list and the menu. The menu has quite a variety of fish, poultry, pork, steak and seafood yet is not overwhelming to choose. One can tell they have put a lot of effort and thought into having a menu of gourmet choices for a fine palate...unlike your typical evening out with a 5 page menu! The food was divine, service fantastic...can't wait to return to eat outside!!
