Editorial Review

Eating here is like eating with family. Daniele Johnson, the Belgian-born owner, does most of the cooking, and her husband, Steve, helps out on weekends when he's not traveling on business. The restaurant is tiny, comfortable and informal -- just don't expect precision service.

Although the menu is limited, it's authentic. Try the carbonnades flamandes, a traditional beef stew made with dark Belgian beer, or the chocolate mousse made with silky Belgian chocolate. A must-taste is the Belgian fries ("Don't call them french fries," scolds Daniele). They're cooked in two stages -- first at a low temperature, then cooled and cooked again at a high temperature. This gives the fries a crunchy exterior, while keeping them soft within.

The restaurant has an extensive selection of Belgian beers, as well as an interesting collection of photos, posters, newspaper articles and other tidbits adorning the walls.

An overpriced and non-authentic experience.

I was excited to go here, but in the end was sorry to have wasted my money. While the service was actually great (July 2009) and there were some interesting beers and wines, the food was disappointing. The chicken dish was nothing more than a few cut up pieces of stir-fry-like chicken in a watery cream sauce, with a few vegetables and fries that tasted like pre-seasoned fries out of a bag - tasted nothing like authentic frites. The mussels were served in two small batches...simple but okay. They came with the same frozen fries. Our outdoor seats also came with about ten flies that constantly swarmed around our table the entire time we ate. It was not at all worth the late-teen entree prices.

Once a truly charming place per the post review but has changed ownership at least twice maybe as many as four times.
