I've been to Carlyle a dozen times with various groups of friends - food lovers all who regularly eat at high end DC restaurants. Never had a bad experience and the food is always great, and a good value. Service can be a tad less consistent, but this is one of my favorite places.
The pork tenderloin is awesome and the service was pretty good, it was like we had 3 servers for our table. My date liked the atmosphere and the desert and my drinks were always full. A good scene for a couple or the fam.
I met a friend at Carlyle for lunch before taking in a movie. We're in our seventies and had heard great things about it. We were seated and a waiter dropped by to see if we'd like a cocktail. He left after our request for a coffee and an iced tea and never returned. Fifteen minutes later we stood up to leave and another waiter rushed over and convinced us to stay. I ordered a hamburger medium rare and a coffee and we waited some more. After physically standing up and literally catching the waiter we finally got our food. The hamburger was well done and the coffee was tepid. It was possibly the worst meal I've ever had and overpriced. I will never go back. It is my belief that Carlyle doesn't want seniors as customers.
My husband and I just had dinner at Carlyle and it was just so so. The service was great, the atmosphere wonderful, but the food just didn't taste that great. The ribeye tasted like they drowned it in liquid smoke and the cajun shrimp with grit cakes tasted like everything but shrimp. Overall, we both thought everything was just a little too overworked. I'm really sad because we had heard great things and wanted to be impressed.
