The food at Cava is outstanding, but the service leaves something to be desired. Servers are very inattentive and sometimes disappear for long periods of time. I have been to Cava twice and both experiences were very disappointing because of the slow and inattentive service.
Better food, better Harissa, better service and better atmosphere. End of story.
I stopped in last night to grab a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised by the cool atmosphere, great food and knowledgeable wait staff. The only semi-negative was the grilled scallops which I found to be mushy and under cooked. But the mojito, spinach/feta/filo creation and calamari were delish. I'll most definitely be coming back.
After falling in love with Mediterranean food on a vacation in Greece, I was thrilled to find out that a highly touted Mezze joint would be moving to the Hill. However, my high hopes for Cava were definitly not met. Although the hummus was fine and the mojitos were delicious (albeit overpriced), the saganaki was way too breaded and heavy and the shrimp in the crab stuffed shrimp were tough and rubbery. The macaroni and cheese which I have heard so many raves about was very oily and sat like a brick in my stomach. I must say, I don't get the hype and at those prices, I will not be returning for so-so mezze.
While I thought the food I had was delicous, I was shocked by the prices. I know tapas type dishes can add up, I thought $15 for a small dish of orzo and lamb was excessive. I wouldn't go back (even though I live down the street)unless it were a special occasion and then I'd go somewhere that offers a real mean.
