This little deli is tucked away inside a strip mall, Loehmann's Plaza, on a bustling highway in Falls Church. The walls are adorned with pictures of stars: James Gandolfini, Al Pacino, John Belushi, Marilyn Monroe.
The soup arrived, and I was pleasantly surprised. After all, when I think of Northern Virginia, I think of the Mixing Bowl, not the matzoh ball. The chicken broth was rich, filled with white and dark meat, and carrots and celery. The matzo balls had the right texture: not too hard, not too soft.
The owner, Jon Rossler, who took over the deli from his parents five years ago, says he boils chicken to make the stock, then uses the meat for the chicken salad. "We sell a lot of the stuff during the wintertime, probably 100 bowls every day. It's my great-grandmother's recipe from Poland."
