Farah Olivia is consistently excellent without flaws. The quality of the food, the presentation, and the taste is great. Food is never salty or fatty -- healthy food always. Sauces do not hide the intrinsic taste. Meals are never gluttonous. Everything is elegant and sensible in calorie count. Price is reasonable for the quality level. It is some of the best food in Washington, DC. M&J
In a metro region where most new hip/stylized restaurants fall into one of these categories -- farm fresh, comfort food, sushi, or pizza -- it was great to experience dining that focuses on bold flavors and unique ingredient combinations. I wish we had more like it in the DC metro area. I tried Farrah Olivia with five friends during restaurant week and everything was wonderful.
Only go to Farrah Oliva if you love the avant garde. The food was good, but I echo the review by Tom above--it seems that not even the wait staff can explain the bizarre menu items. To me, its like art by Warhol: while it definitely has its own merit, nothing does it for me like a Botticelli painting... While Farrah Olivia gets 5 stars for creativity and fresh ideas, it lacks in comfort food and a comfortable atmosphere. Next time I will skip the over-the-top menu and go to the more reasonable (and warm) Bastille up the road.
I went there on NewYears eve. The food was great! The wine selection was also very good. The bar tender was very helpful and knew alot about the menu (since I have seafood allergies. The service was alright. I had a good overall experience, but the portions were just too small. I had to get a burger somewhere else cos I was still hungry! I'd still recommend it though the chef is great!
Farrah Oliva has made me sit up and take notice. The food is the best I've had--ever. This was an experience like no other. We've been twice in the last 2 months and both times the service has been attentive, but not rushed and the food is at a level I've not seen before.
