The firehouse theme is rather scant: a couple of helmets, a Fairfax firefighter's jacket, a picture or two. (A big pole in the middle of the floor would have been cool.) In any case, this is primarily a restaurant, but half of the front room is taken up with a long wooden bar. There are the usual suspects on draft, a small discount at happy hour, and a menu that's on the small side, with entrees split evenly between unimaginative Mexican (burritos, fajitas) and Surf n' Turf (Filet Mignon Brochette, Shrimp Scampi).
After dinner hours, though, the bar turns into a student hangout. Music from Grateful Dead-style "jam bands" is featured on Mondays and Wednesdays, with a "Grateful Jams" open-mike night on Tuesday -- along with plenty of tape trading.
