An Old Town staple, this restaurant's in the market for fresh fish any way you like it. But if you don't, have a burger instead.

After walking by the Fish Market many times we decided to give it a try. In our opinion: Unless you like drab food (much like a New England winter) go somewhere else. We had Lobster Bisque (fairly good) and NE Clam Chowder (it arrived at a very cool temp and had to be sent back for warming). Once warmed, it was "ok". Also had grilled tuna and grilled grouper (both over cooked)and there was absolutely no seasoning on the food. The hush puppies were the most flavorful item on the plate. If you are on a popular points style diet, either plate would actually be good (except for the blandness). We don't think it was worth the money. Service was decent.
The Fish Market is definitely a casual atmosphere. Instead of a wait list, you just wait in line. The focus of this establishment is on the experience, not necessarily on the service. With all of this in mind, they serve up some extremely fresh and delicious oysters (you even get to watch the guy shuck them as you wait in line). Also, their fried food is tasty and cooked just right. I'm not usually a fried food person, but the Captain's Platter that I got at the Fish Market had a great selection of fried seafood that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and I plan on returning.
The staff is unfriendly, uncooperative, and incompetent. The food may be OK but in this economy you can do much better at restaurants more appreciative of your business. Especially in old town where there are at least a dozen better places to eat within a blocks walk there is no need to waste your time here.
