Warm and simple, this Tuscan restaurant offers respectable pastas (try the pappardelle with rabbit sauce) but pushy service.

The experience was a huge disappoinment from the moment we were first seated and menus were shoved in our faces before drink orders were even taken. The condescending waiter insisted that since it was such a "large" menu, we should let him select for us. I asked him to please give me a moment to explain the menu to my young dining companions. He hovered, continuing to insist that he knew best. We finally gave in, preferring to go with the path of least resistance. Big mistake. First course: a very ORDINARY antipasti (two roasted red pepper strips, caprese salad, sauteed mushrooms).Second course: two very forgettable pastas. Main courses were adequate but not inspired. Service was rushed throughout the meal. AVOID THIS PLACE!!
We tell all our friends we went to DC for the history. We weren't dissapointed. What we were delghtly surprised at was the great choices in restaurants. This was a favorite. It's a beautiful restaurant! Service was attentive and helpful. The dinner was elegant and delicious. We will be talking about our evening at I Ricchi for a long time. Thanks for the beautiful memory.
I give this place one star only because there is no option to give zero. Our server was incredible pushy. He was operating at warp speed for everything and we could not relax and enjoy our meal. He took our drink orders promtly when we sat down and then asked for our food order at the same time and we hadn't looked at the menu yet. He stood there and hovered until we had picked something. Later, he was within our view looking at his watch while looking back at us. It was as if he got a bonus for shortest service time. There are dozens of other places for equal or less money that where you can get much better food and service.
I Ricchi turned out to be a very disappointing stop on restaurant week. Not only was the restaurant "out" of bread, and the sides that went with the advertised main courses, but the waiter was incredibly pushy regarding the more expensive wines and speed in taking orders. The tables were packed in so tightly that each member of our party was continually bumped from the back and occasionally knocked in the face by servers reaching over. The meat served was fatty, and tort dessert is best described as chalky. Go elsewhere for better ambience and better food.
At least four times a year I visit this Grand Dame and still feel that although a little pricie it's still the best in the city. Service is like no other and menu and wine knowlege is amazing. Simply simple and still the best!!!
