J.R.'s Stockyards Inn

American, Steakhouse
$$$$ ($15-$24)

Editorial Review

It has all the trappings you'd expect from the genre (dark wood, rustic decor, heavy knives), but it's more casual -- we saw people in jeans at dinner. Shocking.

Waiters go out of their way to tell you that all the beef is aged and cut on site, and it's delivered fresh, never frozen, from J.R.'s family-owned meatpacking plant in North Carolina. And speaking of Carolina, every Sunday during football season, J.R.'s is the home of the Washington area Carolina Panthers fan club.
