Mediterranean/Greek inspired menu- excellent, fresh seafood, gorgeous space, great service, you get what you pay for. Had a great lunch here the other day, hoping to return for dinner very soon.
Bad service and over-priced food
We visited Kellari over the weekend for my husbands birthday. What an amazing experience-great food, service, ambience, it just works. We began with some apetizers such as oysters, grilled langustins, grilled octopus, greek salad, lobster ravioli, lamb riblets and greek dips with pita bread, following was Lavraki whole fish and red snapper (family style)grilled to perfection along with some vegetables, and oh the lemon baked potatoes! I travel alot for business and have visited NY locations before-Bravo! I wish you the best of luck in your land in DC, so glad to have you close to home.
I will disagree with Tom once again. At these prices this place will not last. Food was decent and really like the atmosphere, but we had 3 apps and a couple of drinks before the theater and bill was north of $100. Seriously, a small pan of goat cheese with some honey and almonds for $13. Dinner will run close to $100 per person not including drinks. Drinks were also priced above steak house prices. I was excited for a new greek place (to be fair this is a greek seafood house, very limited meat dishes for entrees), but if I am going to spend this kind of money for seafood, I will stick with Oceanaire. My bet is prices, especially app prices, will come down, otherwise another NY transplant will bite the dust.
I agree with you alot, it seems that this is a great place for our town. I went there for lunch and dinner and I like it very much but my wife loved it even more. We had the whole fish and it was amazing. It looks that they will stay in DC for a long time.
I visited Kellari last night with my Husband. The place apparently just opened up a couple of weeks ago, so I was a little hesitant to go in, turns out, it was a great decision. The service is excellent, the managers meet you at the door and care for you throughout the night. The food was terrific, amazing textures, freshness beyond belief, and apparently everything is imported from Greece, which is a really unique thing for the restaurant. Our waiter was very attentive, and at one point we had a little wine lesson from the General Manager who explained to us the origin of the Retsina we were drinking. Overall, it was a fun dining experience with delicious dishes and I would recommend a visit!
