We ordered the olives, calamari (served with a wonderful roasted red pepper dip), penne arrabiata, and the grilled prawns. The penne was excellent, and the prawns were cooked perfectly and prepared simply, a good complement to the spicy arrabiata. We ordered the dishes to share, and the kitchen split our pasta into two dishes before serving it, a nice touch. The weakness was a neglectful waiter. Once we ordered, we had to flag him down for anything we needed, even when we had empty wine glasses. And the person serving the appetizers placed one in front of each of us, even after I indicated we would share, which left us to rearrange on our crowded table for two (almost knocking dishes onto the floor) so we could both reach.
I posted here in June saying things had become bleak at what was once my favorite spot in town, but now that Chef Brian (the original chef) and Tammy are back Locanda is once again a place to enjoy a fantastic meal with excellent service. If you ate here in the past five months and had a bad experience I am asking you to give them another chance, you will be happy you did.
Went for my fiance's bday dinner last week and had a wonderful experience. This was our 2nd visit and it was even better than the first time. Food was wonderful, service was great, and since it was a Thursday night and not super busy the bartender spent time helping him pick out the just right scotch. I highly recommend the pasta with brown butter, cauliflower, and greens - I loved it both times I tried it. Also the special of broccolini(?) ravioli was a wonderful starter. We ordered way to much and took home plenty of leftovers to enjoy for the next day's lunch:-)
Upon hearing a rumor that the original chef had returned to Locanda a couple of weeks ago, I dined there with friends on the 13th. All 6 of us enjoyed our meals tremendously! I cannot disagree more with the negative reviews posted here, but I notice that most date to the time before the original chef returned. We returned this past weekend as well. Both times the food was outstanding, the service was very attentive, and the wines were delicious. My favorites were the calamari and the stuffed red pepper appetizers, the rock fish entree, and the cinnamon gellato dessert. We will definitely be back!
Very, very disappointed in a recent visit to what had been our favorite restaurant on the Hill. Chef has changed. Everything we ordered was mediocre or worse. Service remains friendly, but they were out of...sparkling water (!?), 2 of 3 bottles of wine we tried, and the special pasta (at 8 pm, weeknight, half empty). All that wouldn't have mattered but the food! It's not what it used to be. So sad.
I too frequently visit Locanda. Recently, several good friends joined me to share this incredible dining experience that I bragged about for months. The Ravioli of the Day consisted of numerous shells and very little sauce. Actually, the dish was rather dry. My friends were not impressed. They won't be back. As for me, I’ll give it another shot but I must agree with the June 08 Reviewer….the novelty no longer exists....to be continued.
