Luigi's regulars think this Italian trattoria, set among downtown's mirror-windowed office buildings, serves the best pizza in town.
With its red-checked tablecloths and Chianti bottles, the place does a brisk lunch business and still attracts plenty of diners at night, as it is a short walk from the movie theaters and night life of Dupont Circle.
Luigi's offers an extensive list of pastas and starter dishes (antipasti) as well as its famous pizza and a long wine list to wash it all down. The lunch-goer may chose an Italiano sandwich for $4.50, made with fresh mozzarella, marinated eggplant, roasted peppers and lettuce, or a pizza for one, starting at $6.50 for a plain cheese pie. At night, the place takes on a romantic atmosphere, but large groups will also feel at home since tables can be moved to accommodate them.
