It's a favorite for birthday parties: a setting fit for a pasha and seven-course barrages of ornate flavors for $30 per person.

Loved the door, but hated the decline there on. The worst food I've eaten (or attempted to eat) in DC. Do yourself a favour and give it a miss. The food was just awful - the first course is the best!! The host did her best to make it welcoming. It was my birthday and I'm only glad we didn't tell them!! Payment was weird, to say the least - only cash or cheque for a $113(without tip) bill for two (included one $25 bottle of wine). I was very happy to leave.
I'm not sure what the editor was on to give it an Editor's Pick but I need some. I found the experience dreadful. Tacky. The setting was a Disney interpretation of Morroco and the food as bland and dull as you can imagine. Claiming 7 courses is pushing the advertising somewhat. It's a place done for tourists and even the belly dancing seems quite frankly embarrassingly kitch. Proper Morrocan food is much much more tasty than we had and it's a much nicer place than what's on show here. Oh, and if you're looking for a wine list, don't bother - two pages and that's it and the wine is served in water glasses. The cost was amazingly expensive for what it was even accounting for the touristy aspect. Don't go - you have been warned.
We had a birthday party at Marakesh. After reading the Post reviews I was very excited. After the meal, I walked out with that "hmmm...the raves were for Marakesh right?" feeling. First, the highlight: the roast chicken was great. Now the rest. The house wine was pretty bad. Most of the dishes you get feel like easy-to-make side dishes. They were average to unappetizing (e.g., the chicken baked in phyllo with powdered sugar...yuck). The lamb dish was submerged in "brown" - it was basically an an oily pile of bones. After all was said and done, I felt unsatisfied and overcharged. I'm writing this review months after eating there because I still remember how bad it was. Props to the belly dancer, but it's seriously not worth it!
