Some of the food at this Victorian-style saloon could use more charm, but no other restaurant in the city has as good a raw bar.
Maybe it's just me, but I love the crowds. There's nothing more depressing than an empty restaurant, and the Old Ebbitt Grill, with its boisterous crowd of politicos, press corps, lobbyists, interns, theater-goers and yes, the odd tourist, always feels like the place to be in DC when you're there. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the location, and I've never been disappointed in the food (I usually go with whichever seafood special is on, especially halibut & lobster, though occasionally go for the oddly retro, unfashionable but delicious Grilled Calves Liver... possibly the only restaurant north of the Carolinas which serves it).
