While Bethesda seems to be fast evolving into the bar-restaurant mecca of the free world, a locale where your palate can span continents in a matter of blocks, that good old American staple -- the sports bar -- remains conspicuously absent. Parker's, though, fills the niche pretty well. A mammoth, 10-foot-wide-screen TV dominates the main dining area, but if that is not enough, there are 12 other smaller TVs to choose from. The usual crowd tends to be fairly young and there for the happy hour beer and sports action. Still, a fair number of families do show up for dinner. Weekends are always busy, especially Saturday nights when local rock cover bands perform and tables are cleared away for dancing. The beers are reasonably priced at $2 to $4 a pop, and most of the entrees are under $10. Animal rights activists beware -- a gold chain-wearing stuffed moosehead stares out from the bar, and the house special is barbecued ribs. Well, after all, this is a sports bar.
