The Ward 7 outpost of Michael Landrum’s steak and comfort food empire.
I was skeptical when a friend invited me to Ray's for lunch. I argued that there was no place on Dix Street, N.E that I would want to sit down and have a meal. I'm glad she persisted. We were welcomed at the door by a greeter who was very pleasant and immediately showed us to a table. We got our drinks and a tasty dish of cornbread with of hint of jalapeno. I am not a steak lover so I orderd the babyback ribs..They were great and had a bit of kick. Not too spicy though. As I watched some of the other customers struggle to get their mouths around the huge burgers, I vowed to return to try one myself. I was also pleased with the condition of the bathroom(yes, I'm a woman). The krispy treats were a nice touch to end the meal. I'll go back
Everyone should be aware of what a find this restaurant is. We took my daughter last night for her birthday (we've been to Ray's in VA several times) and were extremely pleased. The servers are very friendly and highly competent. Even though the menu is shorter than that in the VA locale, it actually is more varied, including fish, shrimp, ribs and the vaunted fried smoked chicken. The latter lives up to its reputation -- some of the best fried chicken I've had,. The broiled shrimp are big and succulent, the burgers among the best in DC, and the steaks satisfy Ray's high standard. And the prices are very reasonable, including a well-priced wine list.
