On a warm, blue spring day, Georgetown's Thomas Sweet does a fast trade in all things iced. It's quite a jostle at the counter where, with necks craned to scan the chalk board overhead, customers call out their preference for cream, no cream, nuts, sprinkles and cherries. Perhaps among the best flavors here is the rum raisin -- the raisins plump on their booze, the cream thick and butter rich.

Thomas Sweet is proud of its links to White House dinners for which it has been known to provide dessert (notice the framed receipt for bittersweet chocolate hung high by the door). Sundaes here are $5 for small; $5.50 for large. Choose, if you can, from banana or butter brickle, cinnamon, butter pecan, sweet cream, cherry vanilla and more. Then take your treat into the sun and sit at one of Sweet's outdoor tables.

Not that fantastic

The ice-cream is OK but definitely not worth to be praised. Slightly North on Wisconsin you find Dolcezza that is in a completely different leauge. Way much better and in true Italian manner - albeit with the Argentinian twist!
