Regulars will tell you: this is a wildly romantic spot for Roman and northern regional Italian cuisine.

Our friend from Sicily was visiting and we took him to Trattoria de Franco for dinner. He loved it and felt right at home and ALL of our food was delicious. The carbonara was rich and creamy, the gnocci was soft and delicious and the clams were perfection. You also have to try the house-made limoncello.
90$ for two salads, two plates of pasta, and two glasses of house wine -- on a non-itemized receipt? You have to be kidding me. The wine was so bad I poured it in a shrub to avoid offending the waitress, who complained anyway when we didn't finish our plates of slop. The bread was from a bag, the salad was nearly rancid, and the pasta was clearly made at least three days prior. Overpriced, rude, and run down. We left broke and starving. The best part of the evening was the lattes and dessert at Cosi afterward. Save your money -- go to Il Porto or even Bertucci's for half the price and twice the taste.
What a let-down! I love gnocchi and really disappointed by this overcooked, pasty glop. And if that sauce wasn't out of a can I'll eat my hat. (Actually, my hat would probably taste better.) The salads were NOT fresh and were bore-ing! House chianti is too sweet and uninteresting. Save your Lira.
My husband and I have eaten at Italian restaurants all over the country and this is by far the best Italian restaurant that I have ever eaten in. The service was wonderful. Our drinks were never empty. We will make this one of our regular haunts from now on.
I thought the place was just fine.
