I had high hopes for this supposed "best vegetarian" restaurant in D.C. Boy was I disappointed. The food wasn't bad but certainly wasn't good and was not AT ALL worth the price. The main problem was that it all tasted pretty much the same--relying heavily on fat for flavor and using too many of the same ingredients--and they served you an insultingly piddly portion. Between 2 people, we spent $80 and did not feel full when we left. The appetizers--they perhaps by way of warning call them "Bites"--were tiny, pretentious servings spaced out on a plate just larger than a saucer. And the entrees tasted like the appetizers reconstituted and put on larger plates. On the whole I felt ripped off, offended, and worst of all hungry when I left.
I really got excited seeing seitan on a menu. Unfortunately, that was the only thing to be excited about here. The service was slow on both busy and deserted nights (I went twice). And, for both large and small parties. The menu is not all that large, and neither were the portions. The chef doesn't do that much to show the range possible with a vegetarian palette. So many more options would be possible, and vegetarians get hungry, too! Stretch your wings, my friend! I'll check back in a year or so, if you manage to stay in business with service like that.
Just went last night, and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and very filling. The portion sizes were good, and their homemade ginger ale is fantastic! The music playing in the background was also great. I'm definitely coming back!
